A salt water swimming pool may sound like a more organic, natural approach to swimming pool sanitation, but that’s not really the point. In fact, salt sanitation systems are commonly referred to as “salt chlorine” systems. The real advantage of electronic salt sanitation systems – like Hayward’s AquaRite Salt Chlorination product – is that it turns ordinary salt into a self-regenerating supply of pure chlorine for your pool and spa. So you’ll never have the hassle of mixing and measuring liquid or tablet chlorine to keep your pool clean.
On the other hand, salt water pools offer their own challenges, and you need to educate yourself on how to respond to different problems. Common complaints include inadequate chlorine levels and problems with acidity (pH-levels.) When the chemistry of a salt water pool is out of kilter, swimmers will often experience eye and skin irritation, as well as mild to moderate bronchial distress.
The first thing to do if you are experiencing problems with your salt water swimming pool or spa is to clean them thoroughly. Many problems can be eliminated by simply removing dirt and debris that is competing with the chemistry of the pool.
