While we are all currently quarantined at home, those who have a swimming pool can really take advantage of it. Aside from relaxing and enjoying a nice swim, for those that are active we wish to share some easy tips for ways to exercise at home in your swimming pool. Swimming is an amazing way to work out and stay cool. Swimming builds strength and cardio abilities simultaneously. Though it’s a low-impact workout, swimming produces high-power results. It is typically considered an aerobic exercise, but exercising in water also provides moderate resistance. This can in turn build strength, Women’s Health reported.

Before you take a dive in, Men’s Journal shared a few of their favorite work out tips and we couldn’t agree more!

  1. Warm-up on dry land. Swimming can be place demand on the shoulders, back and legs. Like any workout, you want to properly stretch beforehand and ensure you are stretching those primary areas.

  1. Relax. “Tense muscles sink like rocks, whereas relaxed muscles act more like buoys,” says Andey Sean Kershaw, head swim coach at the University of Miami. Just as important is to maintain a neutral position with your head, shoulders, and glutes in a line. It takes the strain off your neck and back and helps you swim more gracefully.

  1. Float On. Just like a land workout, you’ll want to change things up and isolate different muscle groups. A kickboard will help you target legs either during a warm-up or between sprints. For our advanced swimmers, try practising laps while keeping your legs still.

Stay safe and healthy everyone and remember our staff is here for you during this time – we will be glad to work with you and communicate virtually!
