It’s a new year and we are ready to see all that 2022 has to bring. Many people have personal fitness goals that they are looking to achieve and as a homeowner with a pool, it could not be easier. Swimming pools provide us with an enjoyable and effective way to exercise.

Exercising in the pool allows for a full-body workout in addition to keeping your heart healthy. Water offers a heavier resistance than air, therefore making some of your exercises more challenging. Aside from a great cardio workout, swimming also increases your strength, endurance and flexibility. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), swimming is especially helpful for people who have joint conditions, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, it’s a gentler form of exercise for pregnant women, the elderly or someone recovering from an injury.

Another great reason for working out in the pool is that you can choose whether or not you use equipment. Some simple exercises for a full-body workout include walking in the water, lateral arm lifts, jumping jacks or leg kicks. If you are looking to elevate your swimming workout a bit, we recommend looking into Aqua dumbbells, water jogging belts, swim training gloves, resistance fins or even a pool noodle. There are several types of ways in which you can use this equipment for an effective workout depending on what your goals and limitations are. Although swimming can be relatively safe, we always encourage you to say safe with some basic safety tips. What are your favorite swimming pool exercises?

Cheers to 2022!
