As hurricane season quickly approaches, South Florida homeowners are already in preparation mode. Here we want to be sure that while you prepare your home for the season, we urge you not to forget about your swimming pool. The most important prep is done before the storm and this is no different when preparing your swimming pool.

The first step is to make sure that you are able to drain as much water as possible from your deck. You want to be sure to test our your drains prior to the storm happening. Use a garden hose to spray water and see how quickly it drains. Next, you want to ensure that any loose debris such as pool toys or equipment are stowed away so they do not become flying projectiles during a storm. Also, be sure to take a look at all the trees and landscape around your pool area and home. Take the time to trim trees of extra limbs and branches that can become airborne.

As a storm approaches, make sure to keep an eye on your water levels in your pool. NEVER empty the pool, but rather be sure you keep a sufficient amount of water in the pool and leave space for possible overflow. Make sure to also check your pool drains and shut off all electric power. If you have other items such as pool furniture that cannot be stored, place them carefully inside the pool.
